Abstract – Transport properties of GaAs-GaAlAs weak barrier superlattices are studied by computer simulation and observation of current-voltage curves and the terahertz emission. Existence of terahertz dynamic negative differential conductivity is demonstrated in the simulation. The observed terahertz emission is considered as due to incoherent Bloch oscillation emission. Prospect for the terahertz Bloch oscillator based on such superlattices is discussed. | | hits: 1551

Abstract- The electromagnetic behavior of one-dimensional composite meta-materials (CMMs) consisting of rectangular Split Ring Resonators (SRRs) and continuous wires was studied. The main purpose was to investigate if those composite meta-materials act as left handed materials which have the unique property of having both effective permittivity and effective permeability negative [1]. The transmission of electromagnetic waves (between 7-14 GHz) through the CMM was measured as well as the transmission through its various constituents (SRR-only and wire-only structures, and CMMs containing SRRs with no gaps).
The transmission measurements were performed in free-space, using a HP 8722 ES network analyzer and microwave standard-gain horn antennas.
It was found that CMM shows a transmission peak between 8.5 and 9.5GHz, within the frequency region where the SRR dip appears and below the cut-off frequency of the system of wires+closed SRRs. This was taken as a strong evidence for left handed behavior. | | hits: 1324

Electromagnetic radiation of the submillimeter (SMM) range is dispersed and absorbed significantly less than infrared (IR) radiation when passing through different objects. That is the reason for the development of a SMM imaging system. In fact, strong absorption of IR radiation in water and water vapor makes it impossible to use IR air and sea navigation systems when it is fog or raining... | | hits: 1298

Abstract – This paper describes in detail the measurement procedure of a new artificial magnetic particle. A waveguide measurement technique is used to measure the scattering parameters of the particle. The results are processed to extract the magnetic polarizability. We generally introduce the measurement setup and carry out in detail the analysis for processing the results. The goal is to show that even when measuring complex particles, reasonable measurement accuracy can be achieved with a rather simple measuring cell. | | hits: 1348
